From Hunts to Castle corvettes and River frigates

The Royal Navy could fill much the same convoy escort role with ships built from different design traditions.

Notes

Corrections made the Hunts useful, but they still fell short of what the Navy wanted from the design. The Castle corvette, developed from the Flower, and the River frigate offered other ways to add convoy escorts. An escort destroyer and a frigate could perform much of the same work despite their different origins. That overlap helps explain why the Navy could change building programmes without giving up the escort mission.
