Venice pays Hungary to hold the Dalmatian frontier

As Ottoman incursions escalated in Dalmatia, Venice subsidized Vladislaus II of Hungary and offered troops, supplies, logistics, and fortification money to defend the Croatian frontier.

Notes

Ottoman incursions in Dalmatia increased between 1501 and 1503, shifting part of the war's burden onto the Hungarian-Croatian frontier. Venice supported Vladislaus II of Hungary through diplomacy and a regular subsidy. It also offered troops, supplies, logistics support, and money for local forces and fortifications. Hungary already had reason to resist Ottoman movement through its territory, but Venetian assistance made that buffer more sustainable. Maritime strategy extended inland through funded frontier defense and land logistics.
