New boilers and weapons extend Hugin's service

Anti-aircraft guns, depth charges, and wartime reboilering probably helped Hugin remain useful decades after commissioning.

Notes

In 1939, the Hugin class received 25 mm Bofors anti-aircraft guns and depth-charge racks. Hugin was reboilered in 1941-42 as her guns were replaced and improved. Commissioned in 1911, she remained in service until 1947 and was scrapped in 1949. Renewing machinery and weapons probably helped sustain that long career by keeping an old ship a credible defensive threat.
