The Hugin class developed the Ragnar design while supporting Sweden's domestic shipbuilding capability. Destroyer orders were spread among yards around the country, although that geographical spread later contracted after the Cold War. The ships retained four 75 mm guns and the Ragnar class's torpedo calibre, with later twin mounts. Swedish steam turbines supplied 10,000 shaft horsepower and a speed of 30 knots. Their cruising range increased by 100 nautical miles to 1,500 nautical miles at 16 knots. Domestic machinery and construction capacity mattered alongside the incremental improvement in performance.
