Huáscar emerged from Angamos badly damaged but repairable, allowing Chile to return the captured monitor to service. The ship later survived a Chilean earthquake and the resulting tsunami without damage. After periods closed for refit, it reopened as a memorial ship. Its career spans Peruvian and Chilean service as well as several regional conflicts. The surviving hull provides a rare physical connection to South America's nineteenth-century ironclad wars.
