Houston and Augusta may have carried subtly different turret protection

Drawings suggest the final two Northamptons may have applied their nominal turret armor over somewhat broader areas than earlier sisters.

Notes

Houston and Augusta were the final two ships of the class and differed subtly from their sisters. Their published turret-protection range remained about three-quarters of an inch to two and a half inches. Surviving drawings and outlines appear to show more of each turret covered by the thicker protection. The observation remains tentative because it depends on how those drawings are interpreted, so it should not be treated as a settled measurement.
