Crew accommodation belongs in the power budget

An unnamed ship-design project nearly omitted accommodation power, catching the problem just before design sign-off. Lights, sockets, phones, tablets, personal computers, and shipboard Wi-Fi all contribute to hotel load. Official Wi-Fi also allows the ship to control when the system transmits. An example of crew-installed Wi-Fi illustrates the problems of unexpected power draw and emissions outside that control. Unequal access can damage morale, and unmanaged equipment creates a security concern.
