The April 1918 destroyer clash gave Austria-Hungary an early tactical advantage when HMS Hornet was badly damaged. HMS Jackal and HMS Torrens continued the pursuit, with Hornet also refusing to drop entirely out of the fight. Scoring the first damaging hit did not give Austria-Hungary control of the engagement. British persistence here differed sharply from the hesitant Allied destroyer responses described earlier in the campaign.
