Hood's battlecruiser label does not make her an early Invincible

Calling HMS Hood a battlecruiser does not place her on the same technical level as the earliest British battlecruisers or prove that Bismarck was categorically superior.

Notes

Hood's battlecruiser label is often treated as proof that she was thinly protected and inherently inferior to Bismarck. She belongs to a later stage of British battlecruiser development and should not be equated with the earliest Invincible- or Indefatigable-era designs simply because the category name persisted. Her developmental line runs through Lion, Queen Mary, Princess Royal, and Tiger. Classification labels are starting points for analysis rather than substitutes for comparing a ship's generation and characteristics. This distinction also challenges narratives that make German technology uniformly superior to British forces.
