By 1927 Walker had moved from the 1st to the 5th Destroyer Flotilla after refits and repairs, remaining with the Atlantic Fleet until about 1934. An earlier ship's bell was sold in June 1933 among 100 surplus bells offered to applicants with a special reason for wanting one. Walker entered the Reserve Fleet in 1934, and by 1938 she had been converted for minelaying. The August 1939 Royal Review gave the Royal Navy an opportunity to activate reserve ships before war began, with ships steamed up by July or earlier and kept in commission afterward. Walker was among the ships recommissioned for the review. The review photograph used in the video is from 1935 because it shows the destroyer line more clearly, but Walker cannot be identified within it.

Reserve service and prewar recommissioning
Reserve status did not end Walker's usefulness. She became a minelaying destroyer by 1938 and returned to commission before war began.
