Chapter ยท 37:08-39:42

Norway, Narvik, and the pursuit of U-47

Walker left Narvik as rear escort of the final convoy, then pursued U-47 after the loss of Arandora Star.

Notes

Walker moved to the Norwegian Campaign as a convoy escort, protecting shipping from submarines and aircraft. As rear escort of the final convoy, she became the last warship to leave Narvik. After leaving Norway, she encountered U-47 following its attack on Arandora Star. The Blue Star Line vessel combined passenger-liner and refrigerated-cargo roles and was relatively fast. She was on her way to Canada with about 1,600 German and Italian prisoners of war aboard when U-47 sank her. Walker attacked U-47 with depth charges, but the submarine escaped with little damage. After repairs, the destroyer joined Western Approaches Command as flagship of the 5th Escort Group.
