Walker's long-range escort conversion

The 1943 refit traded speed and torpedoes for endurance, anti-aircraft weapons, radar, Huff-Duff, and a stronger escort fit.

Notes

Walker's long-range escort conversion exchanged fleet-destroyer equipment for additional endurance and escort systems. The conversion is dated here to late February through April 1943. Torpedo tubes gave way to 12-pounder anti-aircraft guns, with 20 mm Oerlikons, Type 271 and Type 291 radar, and high-frequency direction finding also added. Removing a boiler room provided space for extra fuel tanks and reduced speed to 24.5 knots. Walker then joined the Fourth Escort Group.
