Walker returned to the 11th Destroyer Flotilla, her original formation, for escort work in 1939. She operated in the Celtic Sea beyond Cornwall, between the approaches to the English Channel, Irish Sea, and Bay of Biscay. Her duties included protecting ships moving into and out of the dockyard. A collision with HMS Vanquisher required dockyard repairs. Once repaired, she resumed operations with the flotilla.
