Arthur Nicol Roll followed Rowland as Walker's commander. His earlier commands included Duncan, Griffin, and Beagle, and he later retired as a commander in March 1959. His anti-submarine record included encounters with U-204 and U-206 that drove them away without sinking them. An Italian submarine sinking is also credited to his time in Duncan, although the boat's name is unclear in the available account. Roll commanded Walker during her Arctic convoy and Normandy work.
