Walker left the Arctic route for Atlantic convoy duty in February 1945 and conducted anti-submarine operations around the British Isles from March until Germany surrendered. The Royal Navy then stood her down and did not prepare her for the Pacific. A large convoy war against Japan was not expected, and the Navy had numerous Flower-class corvettes as well as incoming Castle-class corvettes, frigates, and escort destroyers. Those newer vessels could cover the remaining escort work, ending Walker's active career after her first commission in February 1918.
