Urge had a short but exceptionally active career from Malta after commissioning in December 1940. Its service included landing commandos by folding kayak and operating with the 10th Submarine Flotilla before the boat was lost off Malta in April 1942. The attack on Bande Nere was not a hurried snapshot: the submarine maintained contact for hours to create its firing opportunity. The successful torpedo hit sank Bande Nere after that prolonged approach.
