HMS Urge carried two founding Special Boat Service members, Lieutenant Tag Wilson and Marine W. G. Hughes, to a railway tunnel on Sicily's east coast along a route used to supply Axis forces in North Africa. They passed fishing boats in folding canoes, fixed a charge beneath the track, and returned to the waiting submarine. Urge remained nearby long enough to confirm that the explosion had derailed the train, then attacked an Italian cruiser during its withdrawal. The submarine served as a covert transport, recovery platform, and conventional attacker during the same patrol.
