Uganda's Atlantic escort at 30 knots

Escorting Queen Mary across the Atlantic at 30 knots pushed Uganda toward the limits of her fuel supply.

Notes

After escorting Sierra Leone-bound convoys against the threat of German destroyers in the Bay of Biscay, Uganda escorted Queen Mary carrying Churchill and his staff to Washington. The Atlantic passage was made at 30 knots. Uganda reached Argentia, Newfoundland, low on fuel. The high-speed crossing provides a practical comparison with the cruiser's much longer quoted range at 12 knots.
