HMS Trident served in the Mediterranean before deploying to the Far East in 1943. She made two unsuccessful submarine-on-submarine attacks and later engaged the Japanese training cruiser Kashii. Her four-inch gun was also used against landing craft. This range of targets extended well beyond the fleet ambush that had shaped the class's torpedo arrangement.
