Teviot and the planned return to Malaya

Teviot's assignment to the forces preparing Operation Zipper shows a South African-crewed frigate contributing to Britain's planned amphibious return to Malaya.

Notes

Teviot spent much of the war on escort duty before joining the force assembled for Operation Zipper. The plan was intended to land British-led forces in Malaya and remove the Japanese occupation, but the assault did not take place. A South African-crewed frigate was therefore part of a prospective amphibious force far from home waters. The assignment reveals the geographic reach of the people, ships, and infrastructure Britain could draw from the Empire and Dominions. That capacity depended on the continuing cooperation of the wider system's members.
