HMS Roebuck was intended for the UK continental shelf but received the range and equipment to work overseas. Her hydrographic suite and survey motorboat covered both offshore areas and shallow inshore work. In mine warfare she could use larger sensors to identify broad anomalies before minehunters, uncrewed craft, or divers investigated them closely. Sold to Bangladesh in 2010 without a direct Royal Navy replacement, she illustrates how losing a hull also removes geographic presence and support capacity.
