Rochester began the war in the Persian Gulf, returned to Britain with a convoy, and received a full wartime refit before joining escort formations in the Western Approaches. She assisted in attacks on several U-boats and received Type 271 radar. Her later operations included Operation Torch and D-Day service. Conversion into a navigation-training ship further shows how a well-built sloop could be adapted repeatedly as requirements changed.
