Chapter · 46:39-51:02

Revenge's accurate fire at Jutland

Revenge rapidly found the range on Derfflinger, scored five hits, shifted to Von der Tann, and repeatedly maneuvered against torpedo threats.

Notes

After avoiding a torpedo, Revenge straddled Derfflinger with her second salvo at about 10,200 yards, an unusually rapid solution for a newly commissioned ship. Five hits probably disabled the battlecruiser's after turrets, although one shell passed through its funnel without exploding. Revenge then shifted to Von der Tann because concentrated British fire made individual shell splashes around Derfflinger difficult to distinguish. She scored another hit and fired a torpedo of her own before further torpedo and submarine warnings forced the division away, demonstrating both strong gunnery and the disruptive power of underwater threats in a fleet action.
