Mauritius was among the first ships completed with an internal degaussing system, which caused serious corrosion in her copper fire main and left her unfit for action. Repairs took her to Simon's Town, Singapore, and Plymouth before she joined the Eastern Fleet in 1942. She transferred to the Mediterranean and supported the Sicily, Salerno, and Anzio landings before serving off Sword Beach during the Normandy invasion. During the fighting in Audierne Bay she sank Sperrbrecher 157 and five German patrol vessels. With Diadem she later fought German destroyers off Norway and badly damaged Z31. Her postwar service included the Corfu Channel incident and the East Indies Station before a long period in reserve.
