HMS M33 from Gallipoli to preservation

HMS M33's career runs from Suvla Bay and the Gallipoli evacuation through Russian intervention to her survival as a rare First World War warship.

Notes

M33 supported the August 1915 landings at Suvla Bay and remained at Gallipoli until the January 1916 evacuation. She later helped seize the Greek fleet at Salamis Bay and joined the 1919 intervention in northern Russia, where low river levels forced the temporary removal of her guns so she could escape while earlier monitors had to be scuttled. Later work as a minelayer training ship, fueling hulk, boom-defence workshop, and floating office kept the hull in naval use. Her preservation and 2015 opening at Portsmouth made M33 one of only three surviving British warships that served in the First World War.
