Kimberley and Manchester intercept a German freighter

Kimberley's early service included escorting HMS Manchester and other major ships during Norwegian operations. In one interception, she approached a German freighter trying to return to Germany while Manchester positioned on the other side with a clear field of fire. The cruiser made any attempt to resist the destroyer's boarding approach much more dangerous. The German report nevertheless identified both British ships as cruisers. British efforts to make destroyers resemble cruisers at a distance are offered as an explanation for that mistake.
