HMS Kenya, the Pink Lady from the Arctic to Korea

Kenya's unusually broad career includes blockade-runner patrols, Arctic gold transport, Mediterranean convoys, and Korean War bombardment.

Notes

After joining the hunt for Bismarck, Kenya and Aurora sank the German tanker Belchen in the Davis Strait. Kenya later helped sink the blockade runner Kota Penang and carried 10 tons of Soviet gold to the United States as payment for loans and war material. Mountbatten pink camouflage gave her the nickname Pink Lady. During Operation Archery, one suggested explanation for her escape from hits is that the hull paint blended with German shell dye. She survived Operation Pedestal and returned to the Far East in time for the Korean War. Support around Inchon and repeated shore bombardments showed the long utility of a fast cruiser with six-inch guns.
