In July 1944 Kent formed part of the force covering three British carriers during Operation Mascot against Tirpitz. She repeated the carrier-protection role in September for attacks on German shipping off Norway. In November, Kent served as Rear Admiral Roderick McGrigor’s flagship during Operation Counterblast. Working with the cruiser Bellona and four destroyers, she attacked convoy KS 357 in Listerfjord and destroyed its freighters and escorts. These actions show an interwar station cruiser adapted to protect naval aviation and then deliver concentrated surface fire in confined Norwegian waters.
