Chapter ยท 11:31-14:06

HMS Hawke's Mediterranean and relief-crew duties

Hawke moved quickly into Mediterranean service, joined the International Squadron, and later transported replacement crews to the Cape Station.

Notes

The ship's early commissioning contrasts with sisters held in reserve and shows how the same class could support different readiness patterns. Hawke spent much of the 1890s with the Mediterranean Fleet, joined the International Squadron, and helped transport the Greek Expeditionary Force. Her 1902 voyage to Simon's Town carried relief crews and linked a succession of Atlantic and African ports. The itinerary records the long-distance personnel and station-support work assigned to large cruisers.
