HMS Gloucester was built by William Beardmore and entered service in October 1910. Her First World War record included the pursuit of the German battlecruiser Goeben and light cruiser Breslau in the Mediterranean. She later fought at the Battle of Jutland. The same cruiser therefore served in two very different theatres and operations.
