Furious entered reserve in September 1944 and was paid off in April 1945. Her usefulness did not end immediately, because the Royal Navy employed the old hull to evaluate the structural effects of aircraft-delivered explosives. She was sold for scrap in 1948. Dismantling began in 1953 and was largely complete at Troon in 1954. The sequence gives the ship a final experimental role consistent with a career repeatedly shaped by naval-aviation development.
