A photograph of badly damaged HMS Eskimo appears in Jonathan Dimbleby's Battle of the Atlantic even though destroyers receive relatively little attention in its text. The damage came from a ship-launched torpedo at Narvik during the Norwegian campaign. The photograph can suggest a total loss, but Eskimo returned to service. The visible scale of damage therefore needs to be read alongside the ship's subsequent history.
