Chapter ยท 10:19-10:56

A new cruiser on the East Indies Station

On commissioning in 1926, Emerald joined the Fourth Cruiser Squadron in the Indian Ocean and remained in the East Indies until 1933.

Notes

Emerald was the Royal Navy's newest cruiser when she joined the Fourth Cruiser Squadron in 1926, yet she went straight to the East Indies. She remained there until returning to pay off in 1933. The seven-year posting made the Indian Ocean the main setting for her early career. It also shows how much of an interwar cruiser's service could be spent sustaining an overseas station.
