German landing parties were firing mortars and other weapons at the British destroyers from shore. HMS Cossack rammed her way into the harbour to silence them and protect the rest of the Tribal-class force. She became beached on another ship during the attack but continued fighting. From that position, Cossack kept engaging the ships and shore targets in the harbour.
