Cossack's night attacks during the Bismarck pursuit

Cossack joined the destroyer screen that kept Bismarck under pressure through a dangerous night of coordinated torpedo attacks.

Notes

After hearing of Hood's loss, Captain Vian left convoy duty with Cossack and other destroyers to intercept Bismarck's likely route toward France. The Polish destroyer Piorun made the first sighting among the group, then took the vital outer safety position because her crew had not trained in the Tribals' coordinated box drill. Inside the formation, ships alternated torpedo runs with gunfire intended to illuminate Bismarck while carefully avoiding friendly fire. The claim that every torpedo missed is questioned because the destroyers reported hits, though the damage remains uncertain. The firmer operational result is that they kept Bismarck under contact and pressure through the night.
