HMS Ceylon from the Eastern Fleet to Korea

HMS Ceylon's wartime and Korean War service shows how a late-built light cruiser moved between fleet operations and shore bombardment duties.

Notes

Commissioned in July 1943, Ceylon joined the Eastern Fleet for Operation Cockpit's attack on Sabang, Operation Meridian's strike on Sumatra, and the training exercise Operation Diplomat. She transferred to the British Pacific Fleet in November 1944 and raided Pangkalan Brandan while sailing from Trincomalee in January 1945. By May she was back in the Indian Ocean for attacks on the Nicobar Islands. After the war she served from Portsmouth and on the East Indies and Far East stations, carrying out repeated bombardments during the Korean War. Sold to Peru in 1960 as BAP Coronel Bolognesi, she remained on the naval list until 1982 and was towed to Taiwan for scrapping in 1985.
