HMS Bristol spent much of the First World War performing the far-flung work for which cruisers were intended. She searched for SMS Karlsruhe and other German raiders from the North America and West Indies Station, joined Stoddart's force off South America after Cradock's defeat at Coronel, and took part in the Battle of the Falkland Islands. Later assignments took her to the Otranto Straits and Lesbos as wartime needs shifted between theatres. Her construction at John Brown also provides a brief look at the surviving Titan crane and the physical remnants of Clyde shipbuilding.
