HMS Boxer as a larger fighter-direction ship

HMS Boxer's greater power and internal space made her a more capable fighter-direction ship than the smaller Normandy tenders.

Notes

HMS Boxer was converted from an LST Mark I into a larger fighter-direction ship with more generating capacity and space for equipment and personnel. She was a more capable development of the smaller tenders rather than a short-lived Normandy expedient. Her possible value lay in the Far East, where a fighter-control ship closer to the landing zone might let fleet carriers remain farther offshore. The comparison is with the forward air control needed during the United States Marine Corps island-hopping campaign. This was a plan under consideration, not a completed wartime deployment, because the war ended first.
