Belfast preserves the largest and most heavily upgraded expression of the Town-class design, allowing visitors to experience its triple turrets, internal volume, and machinery spaces. Comparison with a battleship clarifies the cruiser's real purpose: protecting or attacking maritime commerce rather than standing in the battle line. The preserved ship therefore makes the relationship between cruiser scale, machinery, armament, and mission physically understandable. Even so, rapid and radar-directed six-inch fire could seriously damage larger warships, as the fate of Scharnhorst at North Cape helps illustrate, so the armament should not be dismissed in fleet combat.
