HMS Attentive in war: bombardment, raids and escort

Attentive served with the Dover Patrol, survived an air attack off Ostend, supported the Zeebrugge Raid and later escorted Gibraltar convoys.

Notes

Attentive spent much of the First World War with the Dover Patrol. In 1915 she was bombed while supporting a naval bombardment near Ostend, suffered eight casualties, and briefly dispersed with the squadron before returning to the operation. She later screened the Zeebrugge Raid and recovered men from the blockship Sirius. Convoy escort to Gibraltar and support for British intervention in the Russian Civil War broadened her duties again. The range of assignments shows the flexibility demanded of small cruisers once industrial war widened their operational setting.
