Deep-trap minefields against U-boats

Apollo laid deep-trap fields against U-boats, a wartime countermeasure whose unexploded mines can remain hazardous in North Sea waters.

Notes

Apollo helped lay deep-trap minefields against U-boats using inshore waters. Their purpose was to turn underwater routes into concealed hazards for submarines. German crews strongly disliked the measure. Mines from these fields can still appear in waters around the North Sea. The tactic created an operational danger whose physical legacy lasted far beyond the war.
