How HMCS Sackville survived to represent the class

Postwar fisheries and research service kept Sackville in use long enough for preservation advocates to save and restore her as the class memorial.

Notes

Sackville avoided immediate disposal because Canadian government service found new uses for the hull after the war. Fisheries and laboratory work kept her active until 1982, long after most Flower-class corvettes had disappeared. Preservation efforts gained urgency after the loss of Louisburg left no alternative Canadian survivor of the type. The Canadian Naval Memorial Trust acquired and restored Sackville, turning an adaptable working ship into the principal surviving representative of the class.
