Nepal played the fictional HMS Torrin in the wartime film In Which We Serve soon after she was built. She remained British-owned when commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy. Australia supplied her crew and paid her operating costs for the war. The arrangement allowed Britain to provide a hull while another navy supplied the people and money needed to run it.
