Small decisions and long-term consequences

History shows how an innocuous choice made in haste can become consequential over time, whether the decision-maker is an individual or a head of government.

Notes

The significance of a decision may become apparent only in the long term. A minor adjustment made quickly because something had to be done can later prove critical, especially when nobody expected it to matter. Decisions, actions, statements, and positions all have consequences for the person making them and for the people around them. Looking at those results over time puts the choices of individuals and heads of government into perspective.
