The historical rule for avoiding torpedoes

A short tactical aside warns that turning into torpedoes is dangerous unless their approach angle is already known.

Notes

A risky game manoeuvre is distinguished from the historical default. Unless a commander is confident about the torpedoes' angle, the usual advice was to turn away and outrun them rather than turn toward the threat. Turning toward a spread can work only when its track is understood well enough to cut behind the weapons. The note ties an in-game decision to the geometry and uncertainty that governed real torpedo evasion.
