The High Seas Fleet's loss changes Britain's next alignment

Once German sea power is destroyed, Britain has less reason to join later Continental wars and may even support Germany against a stronger Franco-Russian combination.

Notes

If the Channel battle destroys the High Seas Fleet, Germany is unlikely to rebuild the naval threat that drew Britain toward France. Britain can therefore stay outside a later ground war unless Belgium is violated again. If France and Russia become the aggressive or dominant combination, British balance-of-power policy might even place the Royal Navy alongside Germany. Britain's older fear of Russia and the Anglo-Japanese alliance both support this possible alignment against the Franco-Russian combination.
