High School Fleet through real destroyer and torpedo mechanics

High School Fleet's rescue mission changes its tactical objectives, while the torpedoes used against Musashi prompt disagreement about weapons and survivability.

Notes

High School Fleet is credited with a recognizable depiction of life aboard Japanese destroyers of the Kagero, Yugumo, and Asashio types. Its final action has a rescue objective: the ships are trying to stop Musashi and save those aboard rather than destroy her. That changes the tactical choices compared with lethal combat. The suggestion that modern keel-breaking torpedoes are involved is disputed. A later criticism instead rests on ten oxygen torpedoes striking Musashi's side, which are judged sufficient to destroy her. The fictional ship's continued survival is therefore questioned even after allowing for the rescue objective.
