Jute supplied tents, coverings, rope, and transport sacks

Indian jute supplied hessian packaging and field equipment as well as rope for naval use.

Notes

Hessian served many packaging roles later associated with plastic bags. Military uses extended beyond sandbags to tents and coverings, while rope remained important at sea. Indian fibre supplied Dundee's manufacture of these finished goods. Whale oil was part of the preparation described for turning the material into useful products. Those ordinary materials linked field accommodation and transport with the navy's continuing demand for cordage.
