Henderson carries analytical command into the next fleet

Reginald Henderson's convoy analysis and later fleet-building career show how Jellicoe's influence passed through officers and institutions into the Second World War.

Notes

As First Sea Lord, Jellicoe drew on analysis from the younger Reginald Henderson during the submarine crisis. Henderson's work helped clarify the case for convoys and showed the same preference for evidence-led institutional decisions. He later became central to building the Royal Navy that entered the Second World War. Henderson appears to have been even more skilled than Jellicoe at managing ministers and securing political support, while still treating Jellicoe as an important teacher. The result broadens Jellicoe's legacy beyond the ships of the Grand Fleet to the officers, administrative habits, and leadership culture that survived him.
