Heavy cruisers inherit the imperial battlecruiser role

Fast battleships for the North Sea leave Britain needing a new armored cruiser for imperial patrol, while Germany must mass-produce simpler light forces.

Notes

If British battlecruiser effort shifts into fast battleships, the empire still needs long-range ships for trade protection and distant stations. A true dreadnought armored cruiser, derived from existing British armored-cruiser practice and armed with 9.2-inch guns, could fill that role. Germany lacks the capacity for a parallel heavy-cruiser line and would need standardized light cruisers and larger torpedo boats from new specialist yards. Fast battleships would serve the North Sea battle fleet, while the new armored cruisers handled the global commerce-protection mission.
